History of Omicron Tau Chapter
The idea of establishing a chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in the Indian River area was conceived by Brothers Eugene Brown, Robert Jefferson, Harding C. Bailey and Willie Adams in 1955. These men, along with the assistance of Brothers Eugene C. Williams, Walter Oden, Kenneth Drummond and George Rahming, persevered in in their efforts to organize a chapter for four years.
In 1959 their hard work began to show progress. Fort Pierce, Florida was selected as the location for the chapter because it was situated between Melbourne, Gifford, and Stuart.
On October 10, 1960, the Omicron Tau Chapter received its charter. At this time the visionary brothers were joined by Ernest King, James A. McNeil, Cleotis Raines, and Willie Sullivan to complete the charter roll call. The official charter was presented to the chapter's first Basileus, Brother Eugene C. Williams and his officers on November 18, 1960 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Fort Pierce, FL, by Brother W.A. McMillian, formerly of Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, FL and former President of Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Since its inception, Omicron Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. continues to cherish the brotherhood and to provide services to the Treasure Coast community, and to the global community in times of need.
